My GG Grandmother is Clarissa Labonta Fulton 2-14-1848 Cleveland, OH to 12-28-1910 Superior WI. Buried with husband James S. Hummer in Greenwood cemetery, Superior, WI. We thought her father was Levi Fulton from Cleveland and her mother was Elizabeth Labonta from France. We also thought her siblings were Fred, Albert, Carrie (maybe Caroline) and Ida. We suspected her other siblings were John and Levi. We had no idea that the father, Levi Fulton, had three wives.

Back in the day, everybody thought they were related to Robert Fulton, the steamboat inventor and stories passed through the generations. Based on the date of death of Robert Fulton and the birth dates of his children (his only son died a bachelor) compared to the birth dates of the Fulton's on this page, I have concluded to a high degree of certainty that we are not related to him.

Also back in the day, almost everybody in the United States incorrectly thought they were related to Anneke Jan, Queen of Holland with subsequent roots to William of Orange and/or William the Conquerer. This is simply not true. There were some lawsuits involving the sale of huge portions of Manhattan in New York City and everybody wanted a piece of it. Fake family trees were generated to prove claims. In the end, there were no huge rewards, the suits had no merit, and the only winners were the family tree makers. Read about it HERE. We also heard all of these stories growing up. Once again, we are not related.
